PROMPT #27 - DEADLY SIN: GLUTTONY

No points were awarded for last week.

This week's prompt is #27 - Gluttony

Ah, gluttony: the over-indulgence and over-consumption that may lead to outright wastefulness. My personal favorite. ;)

Is Reno gulping down alcohol as if he were a fish? Is Yuffie using materia as if it is going out of style? Is Heidegger scarfing down all the donuts that he can find? Can Cid ever get enough tea? Is it true that Shinra has stockpiled all the energy at the expense of the planet?

Show us the gluttons of Gaia in just 100 words.

PROMPT #26 - DEADLY SIN: PRIDE

No points were awarded for last week.

This week's prompt is #26: Deadly Sin - Pride

Pride, also known as vanity, has been called the sin from which all others arise.

Is Sephiroth believe that he is the greatest SOLDIER in history? Does Genesis dispute that claim? Is Zack receiving another lecture from Angeal about pride and honor? Is Aeris more vain than she lets anyone know? Does Rufus have the market cornered on vanity or is he just smartly dressed? Is pride the downfall of ShinRa Corp?

This week, show us your pride (or vanity, if you prefer) in only 100 words.

PROMPT #25 - DEADLY SIN: GREED

This week, the Turks are so green with envy they're practically radioactive! They claim this week's trophy with 40 shiny, shiny points. 10 points nets AVALANCHE a lovely shade of puce. SOLDIER? They're way too laid-back to play the envy game. ;)

This week's prompt is #25 - Deadly Sin: Greed

Greed's a tricky one. It's sometimes hard to sort out where the other sins end and this one begins. From Wikipedia's article on the Seven deadly sins (quite an interesting read, as the list has changed much through time): "Greed(Latin, avaritia), also known as avarice or covetousness, is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. However, greed (as seen by the church) is applied to a very excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of wealth, status, and power. ... "Avarice" is more of a blanket term that can describe many other examples of greedy behavior. These include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain, for example through bribery. Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include simony, where one profits from soliciting goods within the actual confines of a church."

When is enough enough? For Shinra (any of 'em), is there satisfaction to be had without owning the entire world? Must Azul forge himself into the most powerful warrior in existence, even though the treatments might kill him? What might Aerith do if her flower sales make her a rich lady? And what does Yuffie plan to do with all her hoarded (stolen!) materia, anyway?

As for betrayal, one never has to look much further than the Science Department: How many lives will Hojo sacrifice to increase his own position?

This week is all about the dark side of want. Give me cruel avarice, but don't get greedy for words - you only get 100, as always.

Rosso Got To Hold A Natural Wonder of Perfection

Title: Rosso Got To Hold A Natural Wonder of Perfection
Characters/Pairings: Yuffie/Vincent
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Author's Note:  The origin for "But Coveting Thy Neighbor's Property..."

During the hours that slowly dragged by inside the Shadowfox, Yuffie gripped Vincent’s too cold, too pale, all but lifeless hand. She had never seen him this close to actual absolute death.

Out of desperation Yuffie even tried praying for him. She really tried, but the same damned image kept intruding into her mind.

Never before had Yuffie seen anything so close to perfection. It must have been three thousand karats, like right out of a fable. The perfect piece of materia. Crystal clear, colorless, absolutely flawless.

Rosso has it.

Yuffie squeezed her eyes shut as she squeezed Vincent’s hand.

Envying Unconditional Love Was Never Yuffie’s Sin / But Coveting Thy Neighbor’s Property…

Title: Envying Unconditional Love Was Never Yuffie’s Sin
Characters/Pairings: Shelke, Yuffie/Vincent
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Author's note: Both drabbles occur sometime after Dirge of Cerberus

“Will Vincent Valentine stop caring about Lucrecia now?” Shelke asked.

The girl’s question caught Yuffie off guard. She was speechless.

“I mean,” Shelke continued, “he thinks of you as his partner, so…”

Yuffie took Shelke’s hand and looked into the girl’s eyes. “I’ll kick his ass if he forgets the woman who saved his life and gave you part of who you are.”

“You would hurt Vincent Valentine?”

“Only his morbid sense of pride.”

“Oh.”

“He won’t forget. Even if he did, I wouldn’t let him.”

“I see.”

Shelke needed to know she mattered and Yuffie would see to it.

Title: But Coveting Thy Neighbor’s Property…
Characters/Pairings: Yuffie/Vincent

The sun had been up for more than an hour and, as usual, Vincent was soundly asleep. He didn’t even stir as Yuffie slipped back into bed. She placed her hand on his chest. Her mind raced. Her stomach churned.

She wanted to see it. Hold it. Learn all that it could do.

Just one quick strike and she could extract it.

And her heart slammed into her throat, choking off the passage of air. How could she think these sickening thoughts? Terrifying.

Her breath shook as she stroked the side of Vincent’s face. Waiting. Waiting for him to wake.

Spillage From One Of A Thousand Tiny Cuts

Title: Spillage From One Of A Thousand Tiny Cuts
Characters/Pairings: Lucrecia, Gast
Rating/Type: T
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy

.

During a meeting at HQ, Lucrecia’s question was brushed off as irrelevant. Yet, twelve minutes later, some man raised the exact same question and not only did he receive a detailed response, he was praised for his intelligence and foresight.

Later, Lucrecia complained to Gast.

“You need to assert yourself. Be confident. Believe in yourself!” Gast said this as if the solution was as simple as standing while taking a piss.

She schooled her expression and asked, “Do you want coffee? I’ll make a fresh pot.”

Twelve minutes later she stirred cream, sugar, and a powdered laxative into Gast’s cup.

Results from last week!

As promised, the results from last week!

*drumroll!*

Everyone give it up for the Turks! They took 10 points for Sloth and ran away with the trophy. Well... not ran. Too much effort. More like a vague saunter.

;)

Okay, that's all. Drabble away, happy drabblers!

PROMPT #24 - DEADLY SINS: ENVY

One more day left for last week's prompt! (Because your mod is a blockhead.)

This week's prompt is #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy

Ah, envy! The coveting of the abilities, status, traits, situation or things of others - what a wicked deadly sin!

Is Genesis envious of Sephiroth's position? Does Cloud wish that he was everything he remembers Zack to be? Does Rufus, stuck in meetings all day, envy the freedom that other people have to come and go? Is money the thing that Reno envies about Shinra? Does Tifa envy Cloud's relationship with Aeris?

Envy: the characters have it! Tell us why in 100 words.

The Sin of Inaction Has Old Roots

Title: The Sin of Inaction Has Old Roots
Characters/Pairings: Vincent Valentine, Grimoire Valentine
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #23 - Deadly Sin: Sloth

.

Vincent did not know if he loved his father, but he did know he secretly feared him. This was true even though his father hardly spoke harsh words and never raised an open hand. His father treated him with exuberance and encouragement yet Vincent shrank into the shadows, avoiding expectations of continuing Dr. Grimoire Valentine’s world-famous work.

Vincent did exactly what his parents and teachers expected, exactly to the letter. No more, no less. One might call this passiveness but no one could accuse him of indolence, at least not until his father’s funeral which Vincent failed to attend.

PROMPT #23 - DEADLY SIN: SLOTH

AAAGH. I'm so sorry, you guys! I don't know where my head is this week. Okay, so here's what we'll do - next week's prompt will go up on Monday as usual, but this week's will run until Tuesday and I'll announce the winners then. Again, I apologize.

Not for nothing, the Turks ran away with the Lust trophy this week. Well, what do you expect with the team with the sexiest theme music? ;)

This week's prompt is #23 - Deadly Sin: Sloth

On the flip side of the virtue of diligence we have sloth: a difficult sin to define, though one working definition is "a habitual disinclination to exertion". Slothful people may fail to contribute to the society they depend on, or simply talk about a goal rather than work to achieve it. This week, write some drabbles about some lazy characters.

Is Heidegger leaving his duties for his underlings to take care of? Is Zack taking a nap in the church while the wheelbarrow languishes unfixed? Are the Shinra security guards too busy playing poker to watch out for AVALANCHE? Vincent procrastinated for 30 years, but can he still learn a thing or two about messing around from Yuffie? Finally, is Sephiroth taking a break from doing Mother's bidding to mess with Cloud's head?

The characters may be slothful, but we're busy bees! 100 words at a time.

Forever Her Greatest Desire

Title: Forever Her Greatest Desire
Characters/Pairings: Lucrecia
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #22 - Deadly Sin: Lust

.

Each October Lucrecia daydreamed of when she would receive that early morning phone call. “Dr. Crescent, you’ve been awarded the Shinra Prize in Physiology or Medicine for developing the principles of introducing specific gene modifications using xenogenetic stem cells.”

Each year she’d listen to the radio on the first Monday of October, waiting to learn whom the press will name. Was it someone she respected? A rival? A former mentor? A colleague? No matter, her stomach always clenched. She needed the prize to become her accomplishment. That would bring her respect for what she knew — for what she could do.

PROMPT #22 - DEADLY SIN: LUST

No points were awarded for last week.

This week's prompt is #22 - Deadly Sin: Lust

Deadly Sins continues! This week will be focused on Lust, so please place your drabbles behind a cut if they get a little explicit.

Is Sephiroth lusting after Mother? Does Rufus have the same lust for power as his father? Does Zack have a lust for life? Is Tifa looking at Rude with lust in her eyes? Is Cloud lusting after another man's girl? Is Lazard lusting after the 1st Class recruits?

Whatever the desire or need, let us see lust in just 100 words.

PROMPT #21 - DEADLY SIN: WRATH

Boot camp? What's that? Avalanche is sleeping late and blowing off exercise this week. SOLDIER's too busy flirting with pretty flower girls. That leaves the Turks, in a tortoise-vs-hare scenario, to win the diligence trophy. 20 points and congratulations are theirs!

This week's prompt is #21 - Deadly Sin: Wrath

There is a point where anger mutates and grows stronger, becoming the stuff of violence and murder. Rage, fury, the very wrath of gods are the daily bread of Turks, eco-terrorists and SOLDIERs alike. Does a Turk take-down go sour, resulting in a below-plate splatterfest? Did one of Hojo's assistants get a little clumsy and bring down the wrath of the mad scientist? How far will Kadaj go to reach his Reunion, and how many will fall before the rage of the god reborn? Or is Genesis just highly ticked off at a bad review of "Loveless" and taking it to the streets?

Whatever degree of unjustified fury, whatever method of destruction and however many bodies line the road of rage, give us your worst - but only in 100 words.

Lucrecia Crescent, Ph.D.

Title: Lucrecia Crescent, Ph.D.
Characters/Pairings: Lucrecia
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #20 - Boot Camp/Training

Lucrecia’s C.V. made the best of her wandering career. The date listed for receipt of her undergraduate honors degree in biology obscured the seven and half years that passed after she first enrolled in her university. She listed lab positions she had held without stating that the positions were part-time. And the only indication she switched Ph.D. advisors thrice was hidden within the names of co-authors on her published papers.

But she was Lucrecia Crescent, Ph.D., Cellular and Molecular Genetics, Midgard University (1974), never mind that her thesis adviser’s work had drifted far from conventionally accepted molecular genetics.

There’s Always One in Every Group

Title: There’s Always One in Every Group
Characters/Pairings: Tseng
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #20 - Boot Camp/Training

The new recruits in the Turks were a typical lot. Fresh faced kids juggling rookie assignments while studying for correspondence degrees in criminal psychology or electronics offered from regional colleges.

Every cohort had its ambitious one. In this group it was Tseng. He handled his investigatory assignments with an air of professionalism in between his Shinra-sponsored course load at Midgar University. Double majored in biology and business administration. Even made dean’s list. At HQ he received cushy assignments in the biological lab, recruiting or guarding specimens. This didn’t make Tseng any friends. He was destined to become their manager.

PROMPT #20 - BOOT CAMP/TRAINING

No points were awarded for last week's prompt.

This week's prompt is #20 - Boot Camp/Training

We want to see the early days of training, the hardships of boot camp and who is on the backside of the learning curve.

Is Zack a regular prankster in the barracks? Did Cloud get hazed? Is Tifa training for herself, her father, or something else? Is Yuffie tired of being teased by the others for her motion sickness? How, exactly, does one train to be a Turk? Is Cid a self-taught rocket man, or is there a program for that? How did Genesis handle sharing sleeping quarters during boot camp?

Whether it is tasting the food for the first time, an ass kicking 20 mile hike, or incredible homesickness, write boot camp or some other training session into just 100 words.

(Sorry for the delay, guys, I've been sick and my brain is mush.)

PROMPT #19 - FIRST LINES

The Turks are the kings of spring this week, coming in with 20 points and the trophy! SOLDIER and Avalanche stayed inside with their video games. ;)

This week's prompt is #19 - First Lines

Something different this week:

Choose one book off your bookshelf. The opening line of that book (any genre) will be the first line and the beginning of your drabble. This first line, no matter how long, will not be counted toward your 100 words. If the first line has names listed, I will allow you to change those names to reflect FFVII relevant characters and/or places. Also, please list the book that you took your first line from in your author's notes in case anyone is so intrigued that they want to read it.

So whether the first line is from The Grapes of Wrath, Harry Potter, some random romance novel or a thriller, that first line is your first line and everything after is just 100 words.

Of Ephemerality and Immortality

Title: Of Ephemerality and Immortality
Characters/Pairings: Vincent/Yuffie
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #18 - Spring
Author's Notes: Yuffie, in her early 30s, leaves Reeve's WRO and returns to Wutai. Vincent goes with her to Wutai as her companion.

Vincent attended his first cherry blossom festival shortly after moving to Wutai. He asked Yuffie if he should recite poetry.

“When were you born?!” Yuffie scoffed. “Two hundred and thirty years ago?”

“Seventy-three years.”

Yet he remained twenty-seven.

Old ladies in Wutai whispered of how he looked like a ghost from a folktale. There was truth in this, he was Shinra’s specter.

A fragile sea of pink floated overhead. Already blossom petals had fallen to the ground while the crowd ate, drank, and made the most of the ephemeral flowers. They enjoyed what is, for life is short.

Waiting for Warmth

Title: Waiting for Warmth
Characters/Pairings: Vincent/Lucrecia, Lucrecia/Hojo
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #18 - Spring

Spring arrived late in Nibelheim. Although the days had grown longer and the trees had budded, the sky remained grey, the ground muddy. Vincent scraped his shoes at the entrance of the manor. Once inside he unbuttoned his overcoat and untied his scarf. Light flooded out from the doorways of Gast’s, Hojo’s, and Lucrecia’s offices. They often worked past midnight.

Vincent wanted to visit Lucrecia but turned away when he heard Hojo speaking with her. Instead Vincent trotted up the stairs, his footfalls purposefully heavy.

If Lucrecia cared to see him, she knew where to find him. He would wait.
