This week's prompt is #36 - Reno
Here's a Reno, there's a Reno...
What do his coworkers think of him? Can he drink anyone under the table? Does he smoke? What does his apartment look like? What's in his pockets? Is he really a handful of trouble? What was he like as a child? Are those markings tattoos or scars and how did he get them? Natural redhead, or dyed? Is he giving Tseng headaches again? Does he really have an oral fixation or a bomb fetish?
This week, Reno has to be included in the drabble - whether about him, someone talking about him, or an appearance from him - but make that drabble only 100 words.
This week's prompt is #35 - Revenge
Is revenge truly a dish best served cold or will an eye for an eye make the whole world blind? Either way, this week is all about revenge.
Does Tifa want revenge for what happened at Nibelheim? Will Cloud demand revenge on Sephiroth for killing Aeris? Is Rufus plotting revenge on those that instigated the terrorist attacks on the reactor? Would Vincent seek revenge for injustices he endured?
This week plot revenge, but do it in just 100 words!
And as food for thought, here is a Calvin and Hobbes quote on revenge: “Well, remember what you said, because in a day or two, I'll have a witty and blistering retort! You'll be devastated THEN!”
This week's prompt is #34 - First Word, Last Word
Words telling a story come in many shapes and sizes, falling in whatever rhythm best suits the tale. Repetition, whether to drive home a point or show its opposite, is a literary tradition in its own right - and this week, we want you to play with it. ("It" being repetition, you silly 12-year-olds! Stop that right now!)
For this challenge, the point is simply this: your story must begin and end with the same word. Whether it's a character waxing poetic or delivering a dire warning, stumbling over a declaration of love or repeating an order at the drive-thru, find a way to begin and end on the same note.
But do it in just 100 words. :3
This week's prompt is #33 - Fear
What might the characters be afraid of - from the obvious fear of heights to the obscure fear of fear of red pen caps lying too near paperclips, from the nightmarish fear of Jenova to the ridiculous fear of thunder.
Fears are endless and strange things that can afflict any character in a myriad of ways. Do they break out in sweats, cry like a baby, become paranoid, have a ritual for dealing with the symptoms of panic caused by fear?
Is Cloud afraid of the dark? Is Rufus terrified of a loss of power? Is Sephiroth creeped out by cockroaches? Is Lazard afraid of germs? How about Weiss...a little clown phobia? Is Cid afraid of failure? What is Jenova afraid of?
Drabble what keeps them awake at night huddling under the bed sheets.
This week's prompt is #32 - Wutai
Wutai - land of Da Chao, Yuffie Kisaragi, and those goddamn lightning birds. Devastated by Shinra during the war that made Sephiroth's reputation and took Elmyra's husband, Wutai has reinvented itself with a thriving tourist trade... but the wise tiger hides its claws, and there's more going on under the surface of this beautiful, dangerous land than meets the eye.
This week, take us to Wutai to explore its many tourist attractions, as well as the mysteries hiding under its surface. Who are the people of Wutai? What do they value and what compromises have they made under Shinra's control? How much Materia has Lord Godo truly stockpiled? What's the story behind the mountain relief statues, the Fire Cave, and Leviathan? How has Wutai shaped the destinies of characters like Yuffie, Zack, or Sephiroth? Remember, you can explore Wutai via canon characters or OCs.
This week, Wutai will rise again! But only in 100 words.
The prompt for this week is #31 - Alcohol
- you can use it as a medicinal. It can numb the pain or even as a relaxant for a good nights sleep.
- you can use it as a beverage. Just a little something to whet your whistle.
- you can burn it. It makes quite a nice accelerant.
- you can wear it. Many perfumes are alcohol based.
- you can dissolve chemicals that are insoluble in water with it.
- you can clean with it. Will get paint off a brush.
As you can see, we are taking a broad view of alcohol this week. The beverage will be the most common choice for most, but don't be afraid to use the other many sides of alcohol (methanol, ethanol, etc) to drabble with this week.
Of course, with the drinking side comes hangovers, regretting acts you don't remember but just found out about, mood changes, and accidents.
Does Reno turn into the cry-bibbling "I love you" man when he drinks a little too much? Is Cid using alcohol as a medicinal? Would Cloud clean components of his bike with it? Is Yuffie a tad too young or does she swill it like a sailor? Does Rufus use the vino to forget?
Oh, and I bet Tifa's seen quite a bit of the boozing at the Seventh Heaven!
Whatever your preferred alcohol usage, you must write it in 100 words.
This week's prompt is #30 - Smut
The first time, the last time, the romantic one, the kinky one, the meaningful one, that time with the whisk...or was it a spatula?
The magazines under the bed, the video Denzel accidentally found in the player.
The time they got interrupted and awkwardness ensued, the time they lost the key to the pink fuzzy handcuffs, that time in the alley behind the club, that drunken time when they didn't remember where they were or who they were with the next morning, the time when nothing really happened.
Whatever the smut, wherever it happened, however it involved, you have only 100 words. Remember to put all NSFW stuff behind a cut. ;)
This week's prompt is #29 - Crossovers
Let's play with some crossovers! So, this week give us 100 words of crossing the Final Fantasy VII-verses with any other anime, TV show, video game, etc!
Have the Turks joined SHIELD? Is Cid impressed by Optimus Prime? Maybe Sephiroth is dodging accusations of mass murder with the help of Jessica Fletcher, or Yuffie's letting a blond amnesiac teach her how to play blitzball. Of course, the inhabitants of FFVII's Gaia have barely achieved spaceflight, putting them under the protection of the Prime Directive - which almost guarantees Captain Kirk and company will be getting up to some hijinks on the planet's surface, doesn't it? ;) (Pls note that the line between crossover and AU can be blurry, but I won't be judging too harshly on that point. ;) )
Crossovers galore! But only in 100 words please. ^_^
This week's prompt is #28 - Reeve Tuesti
Reeve Tuesti has many hats: morally conflicted executive, spymaster, robotics engineer, city planner. While Cloud and his ragtag crew were running all over the map, Reeve was working in the background - first as an enemy, then as an ally. After Meteor, of course, Reeve took it upon himself to rebuild the broken structures of the world left behind by the fall of Shinra and the destruction of Midgar, founding the World Regenesis Organization. This week, dive into this multifaceted character and show us what really makes him - and his creations - tick.
Where did Reeve come from? What was his family like? What got him into robotics or urban development? How did he become one of Shinra's top execs - and what compromises did he make along the way? What was really going through his head when he was controlling Cait Sith? And... what's next for our favorite background hero?
Whatever your plan, you've only got 100 words to make Reeve happen.
Apologies, and take care.
This week's prompt is #27 - Gluttony
Ah, gluttony: the over-indulgence and over-consumption that may lead to outright wastefulness. My personal favorite. ;)
Is Reno gulping down alcohol as if he were a fish? Is Yuffie using materia as if it is going out of style? Is Heidegger scarfing down all the donuts that he can find? Can Cid ever get enough tea? Is it true that Shinra has stockpiled all the energy at the expense of the planet?
Show us the gluttons of Gaia in just 100 words.
This week's prompt is #26: Deadly Sin - Pride
Pride, also known as vanity, has been called the sin from which all others arise.
Is Sephiroth believe that he is the greatest SOLDIER in history? Does Genesis dispute that claim? Is Zack receiving another lecture from Angeal about pride and honor? Is Aeris more vain than she lets anyone know? Does Rufus have the market cornered on vanity or is he just smartly dressed? Is pride the downfall of ShinRa Corp?
This week, show us your pride (or vanity, if you prefer) in only 100 words.
This week's prompt is #25 - Deadly Sin: Greed
Greed's a tricky one. It's sometimes hard to sort out where the other sins end and this one begins. From Wikipedia's article on the Seven deadly sins (quite an interesting read, as the list has changed much through time): "Greed(Latin, avaritia), also known as avarice or covetousness, is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. However, greed (as seen by the church) is applied to a very excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of wealth, status, and power. ... "Avarice" is more of a blanket term that can describe many other examples of greedy behavior. These include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain, for example through bribery. Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include simony, where one profits from soliciting goods within the actual confines of a church."
When is enough enough? For Shinra (any of 'em), is there satisfaction to be had without owning the entire world? Must Azul forge himself into the most powerful warrior in existence, even though the treatments might kill him? What might Aerith do if her flower sales make her a rich lady? And what does Yuffie plan to do with all her hoarded (stolen!) materia, anyway?
As for betrayal, one never has to look much further than the Science Department: How many lives will Hojo sacrifice to increase his own position?
This week is all about the dark side of want. Give me cruel avarice, but don't get greedy for words - you only get 100, as always.
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Author's Note: The origin for "But Coveting Thy Neighbor's Property..."
During the hours that slowly dragged by inside the Shadowfox, Yuffie gripped Vincent’s too cold, too pale, all but lifeless hand. She had never seen him this close to actual absolute death.
Out of desperation Yuffie even tried praying for him. She really tried, but the same damned image kept intruding into her mind.
Never before had Yuffie seen anything so close to perfection. It must have been three thousand karats, like right out of a fable. The perfect piece of materia. Crystal clear, colorless, absolutely flawless.
Rosso has it.
Yuffie squeezed her eyes shut as she squeezed Vincent’s hand.
Title: The Most Miserable Glory
Word Count: 100, according to Word
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Author's notes: hello! I hope I did everything right... As for warnings: allusions to war and suicide-thoughts, but nothing graphic.
Characters/Pairings: Shelke, Yuffie/Vincent
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Author's note: Both drabbles occur sometime after Dirge of Cerberus
“Will Vincent Valentine stop caring about Lucrecia now?” Shelke asked.
The girl’s question caught Yuffie off guard. She was speechless.
“I mean,” Shelke continued, “he thinks of you as his partner, so…”
Yuffie took Shelke’s hand and looked into the girl’s eyes. “I’ll kick his ass if he forgets the woman who saved his life and gave you part of who you are.”
“You would hurt Vincent Valentine?”
“Only his morbid sense of pride.”
“He won’t forget. Even if he did, I wouldn’t let him.”
Shelke needed to know she mattered and Yuffie would see to it.
Title: But Coveting Thy Neighbor’s Property…
The sun had been up for more than an hour and, as usual, Vincent was soundly asleep. He didn’t even stir as Yuffie slipped back into bed. She placed her hand on his chest. Her mind raced. Her stomach churned.
She wanted to see it. Hold it. Learn all that it could do.
Just one quick strike and she could extract it.
And her heart slammed into her throat, choking off the passage of air. How could she think these sickening thoughts? Terrifying.
Her breath shook as she stroked the side of Vincent’s face. Waiting. Waiting for him to wake.
Characters/Pairings: Lucrecia, Gast
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
During a meeting at HQ, Lucrecia’s question was brushed off as irrelevant. Yet, twelve minutes later, some man raised the exact same question and not only did he receive a detailed response, he was praised for his intelligence and foresight.
Later, Lucrecia complained to Gast.
“You need to assert yourself. Be confident. Believe in yourself!” Gast said this as if the solution was as simple as standing while taking a piss.
She schooled her expression and asked, “Do you want coffee? I’ll make a fresh pot.”
Twelve minutes later she stirred cream, sugar, and a powdered laxative into Gast’s cup.
Everyone give it up for the Turks! They took 10 points for Sloth and ran away with the trophy. Well... not ran. Too much effort. More like a vague saunter.
Okay, that's all. Drabble away, happy drabblers!
This week's prompt is #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Ah, envy! The coveting of the abilities, status, traits, situation or things of others - what a wicked deadly sin!
Is Genesis envious of Sephiroth's position? Does Cloud wish that he was everything he remembers Zack to be? Does Rufus, stuck in meetings all day, envy the freedom that other people have to come and go? Is money the thing that Reno envies about Shinra? Does Tifa envy Cloud's relationship with Aeris?
Envy: the characters have it! Tell us why in 100 words.
