Title: Rosso Got To Hold A Natural Wonder of Perfection
Characters/Pairings: Yuffie/Vincent
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Author's Note:  The origin for "But Coveting Thy Neighbor's Property..."

During the hours that slowly dragged by inside the Shadowfox, Yuffie gripped Vincent’s too cold, too pale, all but lifeless hand. She had never seen him this close to actual absolute death.

Out of desperation Yuffie even tried praying for him. She really tried, but the same damned image kept intruding into her mind.

Never before had Yuffie seen anything so close to perfection. It must have been three thousand karats, like right out of a fable. The perfect piece of materia. Crystal clear, colorless, absolutely flawless.

Rosso has it.

Yuffie squeezed her eyes shut as she squeezed Vincent’s hand.

Title: Envying Unconditional Love Was Never Yuffie’s Sin
Characters/Pairings: Shelke, Yuffie/Vincent
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy
Author's note: Both drabbles occur sometime after Dirge of Cerberus

“Will Vincent Valentine stop caring about Lucrecia now?” Shelke asked.

The girl’s question caught Yuffie off guard. She was speechless.

“I mean,” Shelke continued, “he thinks of you as his partner, so…”

Yuffie took Shelke’s hand and looked into the girl’s eyes. “I’ll kick his ass if he forgets the woman who saved his life and gave you part of who you are.”

“You would hurt Vincent Valentine?”

“Only his morbid sense of pride.”

“Oh.”

“He won’t forget. Even if he did, I wouldn’t let him.”

“I see.”

Shelke needed to know she mattered and Yuffie would see to it.

Title: But Coveting Thy Neighbor’s Property…
Characters/Pairings: Yuffie/Vincent

The sun had been up for more than an hour and, as usual, Vincent was soundly asleep. He didn’t even stir as Yuffie slipped back into bed. She placed her hand on his chest. Her mind raced. Her stomach churned.

She wanted to see it. Hold it. Learn all that it could do.

Just one quick strike and she could extract it.

And her heart slammed into her throat, choking off the passage of air. How could she think these sickening thoughts? Terrifying.

Her breath shook as she stroked the side of Vincent’s face. Waiting. Waiting for him to wake.

Title: Spillage From One Of A Thousand Tiny Cuts
Characters/Pairings: Lucrecia, Gast
Rating/Type: T
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #24 - Deadly Sin: Envy

.

During a meeting at HQ, Lucrecia’s question was brushed off as irrelevant. Yet, twelve minutes later, some man raised the exact same question and not only did he receive a detailed response, he was praised for his intelligence and foresight.

Later, Lucrecia complained to Gast.

“You need to assert yourself. Be confident. Believe in yourself!” Gast said this as if the solution was as simple as standing while taking a piss.

She schooled her expression and asked, “Do you want coffee? I’ll make a fresh pot.”

Twelve minutes later she stirred cream, sugar, and a powdered laxative into Gast’s cup.

Title: The Sin of Inaction Has Old Roots
Characters/Pairings: Vincent Valentine, Grimoire Valentine
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #23 - Deadly Sin: Sloth

.

Vincent did not know if he loved his father, but he did know he secretly feared him. This was true even though his father hardly spoke harsh words and never raised an open hand. His father treated him with exuberance and encouragement yet Vincent shrank into the shadows, avoiding expectations of continuing Dr. Grimoire Valentine’s world-famous work.

Vincent did exactly what his parents and teachers expected, exactly to the letter. No more, no less. One might call this passiveness but no one could accuse him of indolence, at least not until his father’s funeral which Vincent failed to attend.

Title: Forever Her Greatest Desire
Characters/Pairings: Lucrecia
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #22 - Deadly Sin: Lust

.

Each October Lucrecia daydreamed of when she would receive that early morning phone call. “Dr. Crescent, you’ve been awarded the Shinra Prize in Physiology or Medicine for developing the principles of introducing specific gene modifications using xenogenetic stem cells.”

Each year she’d listen to the radio on the first Monday of October, waiting to learn whom the press will name. Was it someone she respected? A rival? A former mentor? A colleague? No matter, her stomach always clenched. She needed the prize to become her accomplishment. That would bring her respect for what she knew — for what she could do.

Title: Lucrecia Crescent, Ph.D.
Characters/Pairings: Lucrecia
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #20 - Boot Camp/Training

Lucrecia’s C.V. made the best of her wandering career. The date listed for receipt of her undergraduate honors degree in biology obscured the seven and half years that passed after she first enrolled in her university. She listed lab positions she had held without stating that the positions were part-time. And the only indication she switched Ph.D. advisors thrice was hidden within the names of co-authors on her published papers.

But she was Lucrecia Crescent, Ph.D., Cellular and Molecular Genetics, Midgard University (1974), never mind that her thesis adviser’s work had drifted far from conventionally accepted molecular genetics.

Title: There’s Always One in Every Group
Characters/Pairings: Tseng
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #20 - Boot Camp/Training

The new recruits in the Turks were a typical lot. Fresh faced kids juggling rookie assignments while studying for correspondence degrees in criminal psychology or electronics offered from regional colleges.

Every cohort had its ambitious one. In this group it was Tseng. He handled his investigatory assignments with an air of professionalism in between his Shinra-sponsored course load at Midgar University. Double majored in biology and business administration. Even made dean’s list. At HQ he received cushy assignments in the biological lab, recruiting or guarding specimens. This didn’t make Tseng any friends. He was destined to become their manager.

Title: Of Ephemerality and Immortality
Characters/Pairings: Vincent/Yuffie
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #18 - Spring
Author's Notes: Yuffie, in her early 30s, leaves Reeve's WRO and returns to Wutai. Vincent goes with her to Wutai as her companion.

Vincent attended his first cherry blossom festival shortly after moving to Wutai. He asked Yuffie if he should recite poetry.

“When were you born?!” Yuffie scoffed. “Two hundred and thirty years ago?”

“Seventy-three years.”

Yet he remained twenty-seven.

Old ladies in Wutai whispered of how he looked like a ghost from a folktale. There was truth in this, he was Shinra’s specter.

A fragile sea of pink floated overhead. Already blossom petals had fallen to the ground while the crowd ate, drank, and made the most of the ephemeral flowers. They enjoyed what is, for life is short.

Title: Waiting for Warmth
Characters/Pairings: Vincent/Lucrecia, Lucrecia/Hojo
Rating/Type: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #18 - Spring

Spring arrived late in Nibelheim. Although the days had grown longer and the trees had budded, the sky remained grey, the ground muddy. Vincent scraped his shoes at the entrance of the manor. Once inside he unbuttoned his overcoat and untied his scarf. Light flooded out from the doorways of Gast’s, Hojo’s, and Lucrecia’s offices. They often worked past midnight.

Vincent wanted to visit Lucrecia but turned away when he heard Hojo speaking with her. Instead Vincent trotted up the stairs, his footfalls purposefully heavy.

If Lucrecia cared to see him, she knew where to find him. He would wait.
