Wedge shifted nervously. "Yeah, but- Jessie, I don't know about this. What if a Shinra patrol sees?"

Jessie scoffed. "Then they won't be able to say we didn't give them fair warning." She took a deep breath and yelled, "Fire in the hole!" She pressed the trigger and covered her ears, anticipating a nice big blast.

The bomb, in the middle of a clear space in the scrapyard, emitted a sad pfut of smoke and a few sparks.

Wedge blinked. "That was... anticlimactic."

Jessie grinned ruefully, shrugging. "Oh well. It keeps me humble, you know?"

This is seriously AWESOME. I love fic about the amazing NPCs at the beginning of the game, and this just pitch perfect.
