"I don't know who's worse," Freya declared, plunking the bulge of her bag down onto the table as she sat. "The ones that lost their forms the minute they hit the PHS, or the ones that fill in every single box the wrong way."
Her friends nodded sympathetically mid-chew; it was even money which department was worse, and luckily for them, the admin staff all had lunch around the same time and could circulate the best complaints between themselves. At the far end of the table, the newest temp blinked wide eyes and wondered just what she'd gotten herself into.

"Um - excuse me?"
The woman - Gerda, she thought, but there had been so many names today - gave her a faintly impatient unsmiling look; Nicola bit her lip and offered the paper she held. "I'm sorry, but there's- I'm confused. This invoice says it hasn't been processed yet, but there's already something with that item number in the system-"
Gerda took a desultory look at the paper without taking it, and a spark of something uncomfortably like schadenfreude lit her eyes. "You'll have to take that up with the relevant department," she said. "SOLDIER admin is floor 51. Can't miss it."

Floor 51st was half-empty aside from the occasional passing SOLDIER. Nicola tried to both look as though she knew where she was going and ignore the growing hole in the toe of her tights, melting with relief when she heard the clatter of keys and voices.
"Excuse me?" she tried, halting by the office door. "I have an invoice-"
"Payroll is floor 45," came a disinterested voice.
"But it's a doubled item number, not-"
"Oh, that. We can't deal with that here."
"But it's for SOLDIER..?"
Someone laughed and Nicola flushed red. "Go tell the General then!"

All the Directors had admin assistants. The President had several PAs, and Nicola had learned in her brief time working in the admin pool that they typically had a quick turnover. It wasn't so outrageous to assume that General Sephiroth would have one too.
Maybe she was just that gullible.
She hesitated beside the empty desk outside of an unmarked office, wondering if this job was worth it as snickering echoed around the corner.
Bootheels sounded on the thick carpet.
She turned, and General Sephiroth was giving her the eyebrow. He's. He's very tall. ...oh dear.
"...um. Excuse me..?"

Nicola could hardly believe it, but Sephiroth managed his own paperwork. Quietly, without a fuss, and during what free time he had by the looks of things. He found the SOLDIER's requisition order that had caused the mix-up, let her watch over his shoulder to see how to fix it, and he was so polite. Nicola smiled gratefully at him as she left, and he almost looked surprised to be thanked.
The trip down the elevator wasn't nearly so bad going back, and she only smiled when Gerda tried to dig into her for gossip.
