Ah, the Internet. SOLDIER uses the internet for recreation (it's called porn) for 20 points. The Turks don't have time to waste in chat rooms - besides, Shinra has blocked all those sites. Instead they spend their time in IM sending rude emojis to each other for 10 points. Avalanche is down with technology, but they have better things to do than watch hamsters hiding in bed sheets on YouTube.

The prompt for this week is #20 - Superstition

There are several definitions for the word superstition:

- "the irrational belief that future events are influenced by specific behaviors, without having a causal relationship."
- "a belief in the ominous significance of certain symbols or occurrences"
- "a belief in something not justified by reason or evidence"

Does Rufus believe in the old adage "see a penny, pick it up; all day long you will have good luck" or is he just greedy? If Zack changes a Chocobo's name, will he have bad luck? Would Elena eat an apple a day just to avoid going to the doctor? Does Hollander's ears burn from everyone talking about him, or is that just the latest Jenova experiment? As for Reno, does he balk at superstition thinking that if you believe in it then it will always follow you? If Sephiroth cuts bread unevenly, does it really mean he is telling lies? Does Vincent have a fear of the number thirteen? Do you think Cid would be superstitious about women being on board his ship?

For a little help, there is a list of general superstitions and old wives' tales listed here.

Are the characters superstitious? Tell us about it, in only 100 words.

Title: Never Just a Memory
Challenge:
Superstition
Characters/Pairings: random kids, some time in the future
Team: SOLDIER
Word Count: 100

“I dare you.”

“You’re so brave, you do it!”

“What if you only say it nine times?”

“Ghosts don’t just ‘kind-of’ appear, it’s all or nothing. Say his name ten times in front of the mirror with the lights out, or you may as well just admit you’re a wuss.”

“They say that if he does come back, he doesn’t just kill the person calling him, he’ll destroy the world!”

“Come on, that story’s been around for centuries, and nothing’s happened yet.”

“Maybe nobody’s been stupid enough to try it…”

“I’ll do it.”

Door closes, light dies.

“Sephiroth… Sephiroth… Sephiroth…

"Mother."

Title: “Mother”.
Characters: Sephiroth/Jenova
Team: Avalanche (Sephiroth demands his own team, go figure.)
Word Count : 100

It was Jenova who gave him his power. Not that sadist Hojo and that poor mortal woman he convinced to be part of the experiment. What was her name? Lucrecia. L for ludicrous. His belief in Jenova had given him his strength, her knowledge. What coursed through his veins was parasitic, but it was divine. It had the power to take on any shape, to manipulate and control the simpletons. Those fools denied her rightful divinity, and for that foolish act they would feel the wrath of the son. Once they were laid waste, together they would plunder the stars.

Title: Prosperity Through Positive Thinking
Characters: Aerith
Team: Avalanche
Word Count: 100

She knelt on the floor of the church, closed her eyes, and silently gave gratitude to the planet for making her plants grow. Eyes still shut tight, she sang softly. Her voice barely carried past the edge of the flowerbed, but it didn't need to go any further to reach her audience.

She opened her eyes, leaned forward, and carefully selected flowers, one by one. As she plucked each bloom, she whispered a quiet "Thank you," bestowed a brief smile upon it, and put it in her basket.

She wanted the flowers to be happy. Nobody would buy unhappy flowers.

No Thanks

Title: No Thanks
Characters: Cloud, Yuffie
Team: Avalanche
Word Count: 100

"No, thanks, Yuffie." Cloud returned his gaze to the tree in the distance.

"What?! You're ... REFUSING a gift ... a HUGE PERSONAL SACRIFICE from me? You know how important materia is to me, and you REJECT ME like this?!"

"Bought materia's bad luck, stolen even worse. You find it yourself, or win it in battle. Otherwise, it's never really yours. It'll let you down when you need it most."

Yuffie looked down consideringly at the small crystal in her hand. Then she said quietly and menacingly, "Oh, you'll pay for this, all right. If you want a battle, you'll get it."
