This week's prompt is #71 - Power Failure

Dead batteries, tripped fuses, caffeine crash – there are so many reasons to have a power failure.

Does Lazard have issues upgrading the training system simulators and manages to blow all the lights in the SOLDIER complex? Cloud have problems getting his bike started and have face the humiliation to walk it to town? Hojo just can’t get going without that cup of java? Did Zack and Sephiroth get stranded during a weather related outage? Cid having problems with lift (take that as you will)? Rufus forget to pay his electric bill? What happens when the reactors go down? Reno forget to gas up the chopper?

Regardless of the juice that runs the machine, show us all the glory of a power failure to that machine in just 100 words.

People were losing hope.
Crops weren’t growing. Fruit trees were keeping some places alive, along with eggs and dairy, but seeds had stopped sprouting. Meat was growing scarcer by the day. No new pregnancies had been reported in months.
People were dying younger now. You didn’t see old people any more, and anyone over thirty looked weary and desperate. Cloud felt weary and desperate, too.
The people had lost hope. Everyone had, since the mako had run out.
Cloud woke wanting to scream, rigidly forcing himself not to. He could work with AVALANCHE one more time, to stop the nightmares.
