"Wear this." The Empress tried to pin a golden, embroidered chrysanthemum to his collar, but he grabbed her wrist. She was planning something with those.

 

"Why are you doing this, mother?" His eyes begged for answers. She had holder herself up in her quarters for days, continuously embroidering hundreds of golden chrysanthemums.

 

Tired, she smiled at him and produced a folded handkerchief from her robes. "Here. These are mushrooms that the Emperor has been mixing with my medicine. He wants me to go mad."

 

Rufus looked up in horror. "No." He would end his father before he'd let that happen.

Reno jumped into the hovercraft before it sped off as if though Hell's demons were on its tail.

 

Which wasn't too far from the truth...

 

With fervence, he and Tseng shot at their pursuers with their self-mutilated faces and wild eyes from the back of the open hovercraft.

 

Their guns were out of bullets when they finally killed the last attacker on his flying motorcycle.

 

But the rickety, armoured spacecraft was still there and fired a grappling hook right through the metal plating near their engines.

 

"Man," Reno glared at Tseng, "those grenades sure would've come in handy right now."
