His brand-new suit hung loosely around his body, tailored for a growth spurt. Wide-eyed and silent, the not-yet-a-man, no-longer-a-boy stared at shelves lined with hair dye. Wider than the width of his arms, taller than he himself. There was fire red, auburn, burgundy, scarlet...
His messy, black hair clung to his face, partially covering the fresh tattoos that hid a single, thin scar on his cheekbone.
"Cut your hair." the commander had said. "Tomorrow starts your life as a Turk. There is no place for your past here."
He welcomed the chance to bury the ugly remains of his past.
