Sephiroth suspected he was being cruel. The young man Zack had semi-adopted had barely said a word since the mission commenced, and that was before he'd spent the whole truck ride silently suffering from motion sickness- an experience that, like homesickness, Sephiroth couldn't relate to. A discomfited glance from Zack confirmed his suspicion. "I wouldn't know because I don't have a hometown," he tried to explain further.

Strife shifted, as awkward as Sephiroth felt. "Um... what about your parents?"

Sephiroth's mouth curved around an unwilling smile. You don't know it, but we're even now, Strife.

I really love this - it does a great job conveying not only Sephiroth's isolation but his dry humor, and Sephiroth viewing homesickness and motion sickness the same way was a really neat detail.

I'm now envisioning child!Sephiroth puking on Hojo's shoes due to motion sickness and Hojo making a genetic cocktail tweak just to fix this problem.
