Aeris finally dropped off to sleep, curled up in a miserable huddle in her paper gown. Ifalna, trapped in the next tube over, pressed her palm hard to the glass, willing her love to reach her baby through the threadbare curls of the ailing Midgar Lifestream.
Her daughter was four years old now, and had never known anything but the labs. Hojo was fascinated by the daughter of his old colleague and an Ancient, and consequently, every day a little more of Aeris's sweet spirit died. Ifalna swore, hopeless and fierce, that she wouldn't let Aeris grow up trapped here.
