The walls did not seem as close as they had before. Familiarity had broadened them. There was so much space, more than he had thought. Space to walk, space to pace, space to stack the books as he finished them. An ancient bulb flickered overhead. Light didn’t matter. He made his own.
Sounds echoed here, between the shelves. One pair of feet could sound like one hundred. Words lingered in the air long after the speaker had gone.
“Don’t stay, Sir. You’ll go mad in here.”
“Go mad in here…”
“… go mad in here…”
Sephiroth smiled. “I already have.”
